Artwork Preparation for first university exhibition
Throughout the summer of 2019, we were given the task of completing a piece of work to display within the studio for our first exhibition. For this piece we could make anything, as long as it was created Over the summer and now a past piece of work.
For this I decided to work with a material I hadn’t before, so I decided to work in coloured pencil, using Prisma colours.
I was in a bit of an art slump over the summer and had no motivation when it came to completing work. However, during the summer I went on holiday to South Korea with a friend, from here I found my inspiration once more. The piece I created was from a picture I took during a concert. From this concert I was hit with inspiration and decided to draw Jung Wheein, a member of Mamamoo (who performed during the concert) I decided to create a realistic piece but change the colour tones, using both warm and cold tones but with drastic vibrancy.
The piece tends to convey a variety of emotions, with her looking to the bottom left corner, and her amber ish eyes there is a sense of sadness, this is helped by the colour scheme. The majority of the piece is made of cold blue tones, however on the left side of her face and down the centre of the page there are warm colour tones, yellow is a warm colour that contrast greatly with blue but also gives the feeling of a cold tone.
In the future when it comes to starting my independent project, I plan on continuing to use coloured pencils to create my work as it is a medium, I haven’t used before that I want to explore more.
